Support Black Journalism (Updated)

The importance of Black-owned media companies cannot be overstated in today's socio-political climate where the voices and perspectives of Black people are routinely marginalized, misrepresented or outright silenced by mainstream media outlets. As we witness an alarming resurgence of overt racism, white supremacy, and fascist ideology emboldened by dog whistle politics from the highest levels of government, it is more critical than ever for the Black community to invest in and support media platforms that are owned and controlled by us. 

Black-owned media provides an essential counternarrative to the dominant discourse, allowing us to tell our own stories, control our narratives, and disseminate information that is relevant and empowering to our communities. In a media landscape increasingly consolidated and beholden to corporate interests, Black-owned media offers a vital space for independent journalism, cultural expression, and political critique that is unapologetically Black and uncompromisingly committed to truth-telling and social justice. 

By building and sustaining our own media infrastructure, we create opportunities to amplify Black voices, challenge systemic racism, and shape public opinion in ways that advance the cause of Black liberation. In this moment of crisis and opportunity, engaging with and investing in Black-owned media is not just a matter of representation, but a critical act of resistance and self-determination in the face of an oppressive status quo.
